First of all, thanks SO MUCH to Verena and Tom who we met in Australia almost two years ago, as our airbnb guests. Verena let us stay in her flat for a few days and they both showed us an incredible time in Innsbruck, even after Verena had just finished an all night shift. Also thanks to Sheela the little ewok dog!
Innsbruck is in Tyrol, in the west of Austria, in the alps. It’s in a valley and is completely surrounded by huge imposing snowcapped mountains on all sides, with a beautiful, cold, fast flowing river running through the centre. It is an absolutely stunning place, and the air feels like it charges you with health when you breathe it. The city itself is somewhat small but very beautiful as you can see in the photos below.
We were shown around the city by Tom before having dinner in the altstadt (old town) when we arrived, and then the next day all 4 of us (and Sheela) went on a road trip about an hour away to a mountain lake in the alps called the Piburger See. It was a small hike through the forest to get to which was great, and as soon as we saw the lake we were blown away. So beautiful. We hired a row boat for an hour and Dylan & Tom went for a swim in the cold water whilst Verena Jess and Sheela paddled around the in the boat.
Afterwards we went for a hike in the woods in the mountain overlooking Innsbruck to one of Verena’s secret favourite places (again, very beautiful) and to the Schloss Ambrass which was a Habsburg summer palace.
We loved Innsbruck. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, and we had so much fun with Verena and Tom, thank you thank you thank you!
