After Matera, we had a long drive towards Reggio Calabria, on the toe of the boot of Italy. About halfway into the 6 hour drive we stopped when we reached the coast at a little town with an amazing castle built on a cliff overlooking a pebble beach with perfectly clear and flat water. It was pretty much paradise in the middle of nowhere, with barely any crowds around and definitely no non-italians. We also had lunch here at a restaurant overlooking the ocean, delicious.
