After flying into Dubrovnik airport from Barcelona, we immediately rented a car and drove across the border into Montenegro – first stop Kotor. The border controls took a while but we got there in the end. The first thing to say about Kotor, and Montenegro itself is wow. The scenery is incredible. Giant mountains overlooking deep bays and beautiful ancient towns, it’s spectacular. We especially liked Kotor. We stayed for a few days in a cheap but nice room in the old city, which was exceedingly pretty, even if it was a bit old and crumbly. That’s all part of the charm. A bit too many tourists for my liking though. We hiked up the old town walls that overlook Kotor from the giant hill behind it and were treated to an amazing view – highly recommended. All in all, a great place to visit at least once in your life.
